Maybe you’ve heard that we should “trust in Jesus.” But do you? Aaron Shust digs into these questions and sheds light on why we buy into the lie that Jesus isn’t trustworthy.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Jesus is never going to disappoint. When He is my starting point, everything else falls into perspective.

Luke 6:46-49

“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

Note: If you’ve read the Bible before, you may notice there are no chapter or verse marks in today’s reading. We got this idea from the Immerse Bible. They’ve taken the entire story of Jesus and stripped it of all distractions – this way it’s a more relaxed read. Like you’re reading a beautiful story. You should check it out!

Yeah, Dianne. I think I’ll build my life on His Solid Rock, not on this world!

Almost every wise decision I have ever made was because I decided to trust Jesus. He has never let me down in any of those situations.

Indeed, He’s a lot smarter than me … & always faithful to do His perfect work!

Amen! The way I am going to know God’s will and ways is to dig deeper into His word. Then I can experience His unfailing trustworthiness!

So true, CarrieAnn. I can’t believe what He teaches me every morning! I’m so glad that He is the Revealer [John 1].

Wow, Aaron – you know the Word & love the One Who wrote it! Thanks for your solid teaching. What I do shows how trustworthy I think God is. Thanks for the boost to want to obey Jesus, my Savior & Lord, more.

Pastor Dave, I like what you said, ” What I do shows how trustworthy I think God is.” Bam! That is good stuff. We can’t trust our feelings. We can’t trust our hearts (Jeremiah 17:9). We can trust Jesus. We can know that He is always with us and that He will not lead us astray. It is difficult to wait on His timing, but we can trust that it will be perfect. My pastor says, “God is never early. He is never late. He is always right on time.” Trust Him in the waiting.

This was so good today. It really touched my heart Not that I forget God is trustworthy but you don’t think about it either. He is better than us. He is perfect and He can’t break a promise

I think part of the reason we have trouble trusting Jesus is because we have an expectation of how we think a situation should be resolved. Jesus rarely does things the way we expect and we need to be careful not to jump to the conclusion that because of that He is not trustworthy. Jesus sees the overall picture and knows us better than we know ourselves. So even when things don’t work out as we think they will or should, we still need to trust that He has our back.

Oh Robin, how correct you are. It is like we can see just to the next turn and we are wanting an answer or a change that takes place where we can see. However Jesus sees the whole map and where we are heading and the best way to get there. Which may or may not be by giving us what we want or making the change that we think we need right now. It is much like a video game and using the booster items too soon, then in the later rounds you have nothing left. Jesus makes sure… Read more »

It is hard to accept at times that Jesus is there for us on a daily is hard to embrace. We fail everyday; yet jesus remains positive and stable in our life. Love this study!

Just catching up with these…my bad. I can so relate with having to trust Jesus and everything being in His time. My husband isn’t a believer. I pray and pray that God will soften his heart but so far the time has not come. Just the other night he made the comment, “How can anyone walk outside and look around and believe that some being in the sky did all that?” My answer was how could you not? I know you nor I could have done all of that. Who would you credit with making all of it? His answer,… Read more »

I am praying for you and that your husband will give you favor in your walk with Jesus. As he sees the fruit you bear in the name of Jesus (Gal. 5:22-23) he will also want to come to know Him and love Him. I am praying Ezekiel 36:26-27.

The point is not that Jesus is not trustworthy it is that we are not able to trust Him because of the condition of our heart. One can memorize all the scripture that speaks to His trustworthiness but until we are willing to release control to Him nothing will change and we will not live in the assurance that He offers us. Our head knowledge will never over come our heart condition. The head knows what to do but it is our heart that will decide what we will do. The crux of the problem is when we feel like… Read more »

I have been going back to Jesus the firm foundation a lot lately as things and circumstances around me fail, Jesus never fails. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
