When his brother went to prison, Wally (from The Wally Show) felt embarrassment and anger. But God showed Wally that there was more than just one messed up person in this equation – but Jesus could redeem both.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

You’re messed up. I’m messed up. But that means Jesus came for you and for me. You get a taste of that in today’s reading.

Luke 5:27-32

Later, as Jesus left the town, he saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him.

Later, Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi’s fellow tax collectors and other guests also ate with them. But the Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?”

Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”

Thanks Lord for loving a messed up Man like me.

Yes, His love is amazing. I pray that we all will show it even stronger towards others because of this lesson today.

I really needed to hear this today. I am having a battle with depression and tried to fix myself. In the last couple of days I have been working on letting go of my problems and letting God fix me.

“Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.””

John, may God pull you close and whisper in your ear that you are special and that He has a great plan for you. I know it is rough when everything looks like it is falling down around you and you cannot see any light. However, keep in mind that it is when we are broken that He shines through the cracks. I had some very tough times at the beginning of the year, and no everything is not perfect now, but it is better than it once was. I just kept talking to HIm and trusting in Him. If… Read more »

Aren’t you glad He always accepts us … and never fails?

I love that last line; “You don’t have to be perfect to be used by God.” Great thought and truth to think on. Thanks Wally! BTW, love the shirt.

Yeah, that really encouraged me too, Scott. “Perfect” people get in the way of God’s greater work in us & for others. I’m glad to be imperfect, so His perfect glory can be seen through me.

Excellent point Wally! We are all broken just in different ways. Amen!

Uh huh, Carrie Ann. Brokenness keeps me humble so we know it’s God’s work in us that’s happening!

Thank you Wally for sharing. It is true we need to be reminded not to be that kind of Christian. God can use us even when we mess up. Because let’s face it, we are going to mess up some time.

Yes, Carto, I’ve got to strip off my (self-righteous) clothes & keep putting on Jesus’ clothing. I love that analogy in Colossians 3.1-17.

I love what the scripture said about Jesus came for the sick! It helps me remember we have ALL fallen short of the glory of God!

So thankful that we are healed through Jesus … that’s amazing that He can save a wretch (wreck!) like me!

I definitely relate more with messed up people. I have issues with entitled people and probably should ask God to work on me more when it comes to them, because they need Jesus too. But for now I will just keep asking him to fix me and help the rest that are messed up and no it. We are an awesome bunch of misfits. 🙂 It is wonderful to know that Jesus love us just where we are and that we do not have to change to come to him, that he will meet us where ever, when ever and… Read more »

I’ve been struggling with self-hatred lately and feel like I fail in a lot of areas in my life, including in being a “good Christian”. Your message reminded me that I need God and despite my brokenness He can still use me. Thank you, Wally!

Our confession & His forgiveness always starts a new chapter. His unconditional love is always welcoming. Praise God that faith always overcomes failures.

Yes, Darlene. Oh to trust His heart & not my own is liberating!

I got behind on some the videos and was trying to watch this one today and it won’t play because it says it is restricted. I was able to watch all of the others, is there a reason this one won’t play?

Broken-ness is such a loaded word. There are so many ways someone can be broken. Emotionally, physically, mentally, people go through so many things, at so many different times, or sometimes it feels like all at once. Others may not see it, but Good does. You yourself may not see it within yourself or even understand it all. But God sees all the deep dark hidden crevices, and still loves us, and wants to help us fix them. It amazes me how much we are loved. And no matter how tough things get, or continue to pile up, to the… Read more »

I like the song Glow in the Dark by Jason Gray – “Don’t be ashamed of your past, If you’re shattered like a piece of glass, The more broke you are the more the light gets through, Show your wounds and your flaws, Show them why you still need the cross, Let them see the work He’s doing in you, That even in the darkest place, His love can make you radiate. I am amazed at God’s unfailing love for us! Thanks for sharing, Leiann.

I have the same issue with Christians (myself included). Hypocrisy is one of the biggest stumbling blocks in the way of us showing Jesus to those that don’t believe.

Pastor Dave WAY-FM

Our flaws show Christ’s faithfulness. Oh, to be more like Him! Yeah, we gotta hate hypocrisy. It discredits God in front of others.

That is a great way to say it, Sarah! I’m going to use that to encourage others who write in on the Prayer Wall. Thanks for that!

I think the hardest part is when you mess up and you mess up horribly that you don’t feel that Jesus could ever love you. When you realize that he never stopped loving you is when you can begin to love yourself again.

… and be used even more effectively. Sounds like you’ve learned what the Apostle Paul did about Christ’s amazing grace [1 Timothy 1.12-17]. Glory to God for you, Christy! Serve Him in greater ways now.
