Read (from the New Living Translation)

Psalm 107: 13-16

13“Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.

14 He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom;
he snapped their chains.

15 Let them praise the Lord for his great love
and for the wonderful things he has done for them.

16 For he broke down their prison gates of bronze;
he cut apart their bars of iron.

Go Deep

When everything goes wrong, it’s easy to forget what God can do… and what He IS DOING every day for people like Zach Williams and his song “Chain Breaker.”

What a great testimony that so many men need to hear today. We need more men willing to stop in their tracks and remember to lead their family in the Lord.

I like to say I was in Texas packing my truck to go see a cowboy in New Mexico the day I met God. You never know when, where, or how He will stop you in your tracks, which is what gives me hope that He can save anyone, anytime, anywhere, and anyhow He wants! I know that if He turned my life around, He can reach anyone–including the ones I love who seem too far gone to ever be saved!! Maybe that is why I absolutely love and connect with your song Chain Breaker, because I experienced being set free. Listening to Chain Breaker–and yes singing the words at the top of my lungs–reminds me how far God has brought me since that day in Texas!

I LOVED this song the first time I heard it! I turn my radio up as loud as I can stand it and sing as loud as I can stand to hear me every time it comes on. It’s such a powerful song. The message applies to everything anyone can be going through. Thanks for writing and sharing it. Thanks for answering the call.

This year my wife told me she no longer loved me and wanted a divorce & i found out i have had Lupus for probably for some year untreated. I have been crying out to God to help mend my marriage but 3 weeks ago Friday i was served with divorce papers. I have come to the realization that even bad things that happen is Gods will and he has a plan i can’t see. I still pray that when the divorce is final and she is all by herself she will realize how much i truly love her and will want to have a relationship again. God is good in all things. We need to just let him take the wheel. Something that has taken me the last 10 month’s to do. I have enjoyed this small group so much. It sometimes seemed God was talking straight to me threw it. I had just found out about my lupus 2 weeks before Carlos’s post. I feel for him and his lose so much. It made me realize to live everyday in the honor of the Lord. You never when he will call us home and i want the last thing i do in this world to be honoring him.

I’m there with you, brother. My wife divorced me about a year ago and I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease along with my type 1 diabetes. I’m doing my best to serve the Lord with everything that I am, but it can sometimes be difficult as my ex-wife and I go to the same church and it’s a very small church. My prayers are with you

Charmell, praying for you in this dark season of life. May you experience the peace and comfort of God in a way that is unique to you and you know it is him.

  17. Rebecca

Great testimony! I myself am in the mist of running back to God, but being a single parent I feel very alone in this. I know God is with me I’m just doing the best I can to come back to him. I do feel like I have a long ways to go and it would just be nice to have someone with me running with me. This is where God has me and even though I’m so very ashamed of my past I know God still wants me. Thank you for sharing your struggles and how God moved in your life.

    • Pamela

Please stay strong in Christ. He is there with you. Trust in him and he WILL get you through this.

  18. Leanne

Loved this message. Chain breaker really hits home.

I know this is one of the most powerful songs in Christian radio today and it’s easy to see why. When people write from the heart and a place of suffering and pain God has a way of taking control and making it work for Him. I’ve never suffered from addiction but I ran from God for a lot of years because I was afraid of being shunned by people. His song helps me remember that it’s Him we serve and that no matter what humans say He is in control and loves us unconditionally.

I like this testimony because God stopped me in my tracks and took me out of the chains of drugs and alcohol addiction. The thanks for sharing this with us.

  21. Larry Crenshaw

Here’s another example of how and why I think Christian music seems so much more authentic sounding these days than a lot of what used to play on the radio in the past. (to me it used to come off sounding much more generic) But now like here, I see it coming more from real life experiences like his. Which I believe is God’s way of teaching us things by real life examples – through real people. Thank you Zach for a great testimony.

    • Profile photo of Betty Gunnoe

I so agree with you Larry! The Christian music today really send a a message, I am so thankful for all of the artists and the radio stations that play their music.

We live in an age where the chains are so strong. But He will make them fall and bring new life in seconds, when we wake up and see the truth of our bondage and turn to Him. God is mightier than all the forces of evil at work. We have to keep our eyes on Him.

  25. Dawn

Great word for the day. So glad that God got ahold of your life and saved your marriage and family. Wonderful testimony.

  26. Profile photo of gentlespirit512

I’m trying to find my way home again. This reminds me that I can always find it, because God has already broken the chains that hold me to the things that pulled me away from Him.

  36. Unathi

Zach, I’m happy to have heard your testimony and heard some of your music. Praise God for His faithfulness to not let you go even though you were trying to get away and do your own thing. I love how amazing His love is, how deep and wide His love for us is! I’m praying for you in your areas of service. Always cling to Him.

I’m praying God’s blessings on all involved in the World’s Biggest Small Group. We all have experienced God, whether we realize it or not. We all have growing to do, and we won’t be perfected until the end comes. Let’s continue holding on to Jesus and trusting His Spirit to fill us again and again. I pray that the Mighty Comforter of our souls comfort each of us in the trying days ahead. I know He is faithful.

  37. Teepee

Thank you for your powerfull testimony. Isn’t it cool how He let you find Him all the way in Spain! HE is our loving Father who pursues us no matter where we are. Psalm 139 tells us there is no place we can go to run away from Him. He is everywhere!
THANK you WAY FM and all who participated in WBSG. It has been a blessing. WE need to continue to pray for each other and be a blessing to those around us. Each of us have been blessed with spiritual gifts to lift up others. Not because we have to, but because of who He is and what He has done and will continue to do for all of us. Oh, how He loves!! UNTIL we meet in the heavenly city Jesus has prepared for us, let us praise Him through our words and deeds. God bless y’all! !

  38. Hope Beach

What an awesome testimony!! I just love this song and can’t get enough of it.

  39. Kirsten Borges

Love the message. I love to hear stories of redemption like that. When God turns us back around to HIm. This is a great message of hope for anyone facing addiction.

  40. Profile photo of Taelor Barnette

That’s wonderful! Reading that verse at the top, I never thought of our sins, fears, etc. as prison bars. That really is a perfect description to say the Lord has cut apart the bars of iron. It’s like he’s offering us his freedom with a way out, and all we have to do is step through the broken bars. Awesome!

  41. Dianne

So many men need to listen to this and WAKE UP! As a man of God, you’re called to do so much more than just be there for your family, but family should be the second block of what drives you the most

  46. Cody Deno

Jesus is just waiting for us, His children, to cry out to Him for help with our struggles and temptations (or anything else for that matter). When we cry out to Him, He will help us: He will lead us out of “our darkness and deepest gloom; He will snap our chains of sin” that hold us back from growing in Him.
Praise Him for His great love and all the wonderful things He has done for us!

  47. Christy

    Nice story. Thanks for sharing!

There’s always who has it worse off than you. But, I do want to say that I let go of too many. Instead of resolution, I find a fall out. I need to get back where I belong, and that’s to God.
