This is Jason Gray‘s favorite passages of Scripture. He explains how the darkest, most tragic moments in our lives can teach us the most beautiful things.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Have you witnessed a huge act of saving grace? This is why He came.

In today’s reading, we get to see an incredible act of grace, making something horrible into something beautiful.

Luke 23:32-43

Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with him. When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.

The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed. “He saved others,” they said, “let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine. They called out to him, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” A sign was fastened above him with these words: “This is the King of the Jews.”

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”

But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Very well said Jason . I could really feel your passion for Christ and His grace . It brings to mind when Paul says “for when I am weak , then am I strong”. It is amazing how it takes really tough situations for us to turn to God with our full heart and let Him be our strength .

Wonderful words of life. This lesson brings confirmation today in my life . My husband and I have been talking to and with God this past 2 weeks about the continual struggle with addiction our son has and ultimately the opportunities we have. I can see that the strength “my next generation” has to have in these times has to be great. The Lord reminded me that it is adversary that creates strength . I found peace in that revelation, but today’s lesson drove it home. Thank You Lord. Thank all of you that have been putting your effort in… Read more »

I understand how hard it is when a child gets into drugs. My daughter got into trouble as a teenager. She has been clean now a few years. It was a struggle to know what to do and especially what not to do while she was using. We are still praying she will come back to the LORD. God bless you family.

Thank you Elizabeth for your kind and understanding words. I will be praying for your famly . Isaiah 49:25 ” I will contend with those who contend with you and your children I will save!”
Hallelujah and Amen.

Oh! That is a wonderful verse. I cling to Prov 22:6. Now I will also cling to this promise.

I love this so much! Needed this!

He had something to offer that Jesus was not getting in that moment. He offered faith…a bright, respectful faith in the time where Jesus was being deluged with disrespect from those who rejected him. That is a beautiful gift. I bet it warmed the Lord’s heart!

We do have nothing to offer that God doesn’t already have but He loves us anyway. The LORD gives me courage, forgiveness, and love when there is none in me. The lessons have been hard but He has been there through it all.

Thank you Jason Gray! I really love your song, Sparrows. It helps me feel God’s peace every time I hear it.

Indeed, it is like the human body. We cannot develop immunities to viruses unless we are subjected to it. And like Jason said, “How do we learn courage unless we face something that terrifies us?” Our own enemies help us prevent them from attacking us!

what a beautiful message today. some of my life and trials as ugly and daunting as they seemed at the time Are some of my most beautiful blessings and connection with God!

Thank you, Jason! What a beautiful message. Jesus promises to work good in all things for those who love Him. Some of the darkest times in my life brought forth blessings I would have missed had He not brought me through them.

Thank you. I needed this tonight.
