Do you ever find yourself doing one thing, but wishing you were somewhere else?

Bekah (from The Wally Show) has struggled with her share of impatience. But it turns out there’s something vital she missed by wishing away the present.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

We know that Jesus didn’t come to earth and die right away. He grew and realized there is purpose in the waiting. You’ll see that today in Luke 2.

Luke 2:41-52

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual. After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first, because they assumed he was among the other travelers. But when he didn’t show up that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives and friends.

When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

His parents didn’t know what to think. “Son,” his mother said to him, “why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere.”

“But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they didn’t understand what he meant.

Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart.

Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.

I am very grateful for parents that attempted to teach me the value of living each stage of life as it came. However, I still tend to want to get to the ‘next’ thing. Thank you Becca and Pastor Dave, for sharing and the reminder to bloom where I am.

Thanks, Brenda … and when we bloom His way, we are beautiful to Him & to others! Psalm 01

If anyone knows how to trust God in the waiting & obey Him, Bekah & Joey do! Thanks for your real conversation, Bekah.

Loved today’s passage and it is always a good reminder that it is important to grow not only physically, but spiritually and socially just as we saw Jesus doing in the verses.

I’ve preached Jesus 30 years & I’m constantly amazed at how His example covers every aspect of my life. What an example He is to follow!

Timely lesson. My husband and I are currently waiting for the word so that we can move to a different country. We’ve been waiting for almost a year. Looking back, I think we’ve been wasting a lot of time making plans for our new life, getting excited about what is to come, but forgetting about what is now. We should be more focused on how we can be using our gifts and services for the Lord in the here and now instead of wishing it to go faster in order to find out what it to come. Thanks for the… Read more »

I’m so grateful that God made me wait a long time for the things I need I now have an amazing job and I’m talking to someone and I’ve never really dated before but it was in those times of being single that taught me about how to be patient how to see how to be content even when things didn’t go my way.. Gods way is always better ❤️

I can so relate with Bekah. In some ways I am very patient but when it comes to waiting for things in life I have often wished them away before appreciating them. It isn’t until the next phase of life comes that I look back and wonder why I wish it away so fast instead of appreciating the moment.

Yes, to savor the moment, smell the roses, appreciate the Presence of God where I am now. I’m with you … I sure don’t want to miss that!

Jesus had very patient parents. They could have disciplined him severely for staying back in Jerusalem, but they knew they had a very special child. When they found him, he wasn’t playing in the streets or doing something bad, he was in the Temple teaching people! Which is probably why they couldn’t stay mad at him.

Also, I have a little personal note to add.
Jesus gave us a good example to follow on how to treat our parents. I try to follow this example he has left us, but I often fail.

Every day I pray for God to help me treat my parents better and be more PATIENT with them. Some days I do better at this than others, but God is helping me to become a better son each and every day.

I love my parents and want to treat them the best I can.

A valuable lesson, indeed, Cody. The Life of Jesus covers every aspect of our lives … and your application is a good one. Thanks.

I needed this. Sometimes at the young age of 24 I get impatient of still being in college and eager to start my own ministry but yet Jesus waited until the perfect timing of 30. Humbling for sure but teaches me it’s ok to be patient and slow in a society that tends to be the exact opposite.

You are wise beyond your years! Keep looking to Jesus. It will be great ahead!

I think as humans we are made to reach for the next “thing”. As kids we can’t wait to grow up and do adult things; as young adults it’s on to college, settling into the career path; next is love and marriage and finding that soul mate and having a family. Then when we start middle age we notice time is going by more quickly and we get busier, wishing we could return to our youth! It is important to plan for the future, save money for it but if we are too busy doing that and not living in… Read more »

Thank you Bekah, your honesty and transparency has made me look at my life and shown me I’ve been doing the same exact thing. I realize I need to self evaluate and make some changes and only through Christ is that possible. Thank you and God bless.

I noticed that They couldn’t find Jesus for 3 days. What 12 year old in this day and age wouldn’t be upset or frantic. And of course what Mary must have felt. This story always makes me stop and think. No matter how many times I read it. Thank you for sharing Bekah because it is important to enjoy our time no matter where we are at in our lives.

For some reason this is a terribly hard lesson to learn, even though God has shown me many times how important it is. It is too easy to forget! I so appreciate this reminder and I continue to strive to follow it through!

I am where I am and I’m excited! Because I don’t have life perfect. I am slow at work but I have a job. I have income. However, I’d like to be married and/or my own business, and be my own boss. I’d like more money so I could travel, but I’m not so bad off. I don’t know what God is doing. I am anxious, but, for a change, I have money to pay bills, and I am happy with that. I have questions about who God really is. I’ve learned that I’ve been living in a fantasy world.… Read more »

I have always been a patient person. Everything is worth waiting for, especially with God. It is very surprising that His parents didn’t scold him, making them very patient parents. Rightfully so to be anxious but I think God moved in their hearts to be patient with this special son of theirs.

Aren’t you glad that same God moves in our hearts now so that we can be the people of God He desires. I’m praying for more of that watchful obedience.

These lessons are great! I have been doing a series on facebook Live where I go through romans explaining the passages and giving a small sermon. Though, I still tend to struggle with a lot of other personal things. When I began this, It was when I honestly just really started getting into the bible. I hit the ground running at 19. Like Jesus, I believe I need to take some time to grow. Its nothing wrong with sharing God, but its also nothing wrong with waiting on God to lead you! Pray for me that I begin to open… Read more »
