Read (from the New Living Translation)

John 15:4-5

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

Go Deep

Dating and romantic relationships can amplify our feelings of anxiety, worry, and fear. Today, Rebie from WAY Nation (and guest on The Wally Show) tells the story of her own bravery amidst relationship turmoil. It’s a fun story, but it packs a big punch when we realize what was at the root of her confidence in the first place.

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

Remaining in Christ means (1) believing that he is God’s Son (1 John 4:15), (2) receiving him as Savior and Lord (John 1:12), (3) doing what God says (1 John 3:24), (4) continuing to believe the Good News (1 John 2:24), and (5) relating in love the community of believers, Christ’s body (John 15:12).

What a great reminder of being rooted in Christ as our identity. In this social media revolving world, we can get so caught up in what others think and live our lives based on getting so many “likes”. If we are rooted in Christ and what HE says about us we can’t be moved by what others say or our circumstance. Thank you for sharing your experience. I can walk boldly in Christ today knowing that HE has given me everything I need today in order to be successful. So when fear creeps in today I will combat with the… Read more »

Rebie, Has any one ever told you, You are wise beyond your years?! May it never be believed by my generation that and old dog can’t learn new tricks either! You have proven that your generation can (and will) teach even more to those who have gone before. Thank you for sharing your love for God and your heart with such passion. Through todays study I have been given confirmation of being on the right track as I have been traveling through the wilderness. I’ve learned its okay to fear, but doubting is where I allowed fear to have its… Read more »

Thank you Rebie for sharing your life experience with us! This message really hits home for me. I know it’s so easy to have that fear and anxiousness when we don’t know what the outcome will be in certain situations. Rejection was one of my biggest fears. I also know that when we do change our perspective and focus on what God says he brings peace and understanding. He gives you your identity and purpose in this life, and we must continue to seek him.

Loved this devotion! what a great reminder that fear and anxiety are just ways the deceiver uses to keep our focus off of Christ and on ourselves. Those emotions can feel so real but they are feelings and not facts. Praise be to Jesus that if we remain in him and focus on Him we will grow and be fruitful.

I can totally relate to this message today! I struggle so much with fear of future pain, especially in my marriage. My parents rocky marriage and eventual divorce left me completely terrified that my marriage would end the same way… When I realize I can’t control the outcome, I find myself striving and manipulating or withdrawing and self-protecting. These behaviors tear down the very thing I’m trying to save. God has a better way! It requires trust… trust that He is the one holding my marriage. Trust that His Spirit will make the changes I’m desperate to see and trust… Read more »

Allyss, you are so much stronger than you think! You got me out of bed after 4 days!!!! If you can do that, you can do ANYTHING. You are a Proverbs 31 lady!!!! and don’t you forget that. Don’t feel bad if you want to forget about the kids 1 night a week to date your husband. Don’t forget to appreciate him. Give him 30 mins to an hr each day after work to himself so he can wash the days work off and mentally prepare for husband/father mode. You are NOT your mother, he is NOT your father and your… Read more »

Being reminded of whose we are is essential to how we respond. I’m just understanding this philosophy. I’m just as much His unemployed and homeless as I am a CEO and living in a mansion. The more I’m in community here, the better I become. I don’t necessarily feel “whoa is me.” Am I struggle with my finances, I see others struggle with not only the same issue, but some waaaayy more bigger than mine. I FOUND A JOB!!!!!! God has not only given me a job, He has given me hope and provisions. Not only did I get a… Read more »

I love what you have just said! We are his no matter our situation! And I am sooooo excited you got a job! I have prayed daily for you to get a job, and that you will get back on your feet. He is always faithful. It has been a blast seeing God at work in your life these past two weeks. 🙂

Congratulations, Toya! God has truly provided for you! Also, I love your thought that God doesn’t care about our social status. We are his, no matter what.

This was everything to me today. Thank you for reminding me the outcomes and what others think do not change me. The only true thing that matters is God and the authority he has.

What a great devotional! I’ve never thought about the fact that when you are getting anxious you are probably placing your worth in something other than God! Love it! Thanks for sharing. We can learn a lot from any situation

I, as well, am frightened of future pain. So frightened, in fact, that I tend not to take risks that have potential for pain. With God’s help, I am working on realizing that all risks have potential for pain. That is why they are risky, after all. It is not easy, though.
