You may have heard today’s verse before, but wow, it’s a good one. Really take this to heart today.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Psalm 23:1-4

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
    He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
    bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
    protect and comfort me.

Go Deep

Bekah (from The Wally Show) was faced with her worst fear. When her husband got sick, she was faced with the possibility of losing him. Thankfully this didn’t happen, but this did set off a long chain of dealing with a chronic sickness. New fears began to pop up in Bekah’s mind, but today, she’s sharing what she’s learned through this process and some powerful ways to combat your worst fears.

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

Death casts a frightening shadow over us because we are entirely helpless in its presence. We can struggle with other enemies – pain, suffering, disease, injury – but strength and courage cannot overcome death. It has the final word Only one person can walk with us through death’s dark valley and bring us safely to the other side – the God of life, our shepherd. Because life is uncertain, we should follow this shepherd who offers us eternal comfort.

Thank you. I have to remind myself daily of this. I lost him but for the past 4 years are searching for his path for me. I pray that all see his light and follow

Sarcher, Thanks for sharing your journey. I get encouraged every time I listen to the song Reckless Love. The chorus reminds me that he never stops pursuing me. “And oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
And I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God!”

In the book of Judges God says that He wanted to test Israel . It seems He does the same with us . “ I can do all things through Christ “ helps me . It does not mean I always get what I want , but that God will be with us and get us through our darkest moments in whatever His greater will is for us . Our faith in Him strengthens each time we walk through the valley of the shadow of death and we come through on the other side . Praise the Lord for His… Read more »

Faith is choosing to believe even when we feel alone and think God is far away. It’s difficult to practice but God shows up in the small, mundane parts of life and it can be easy to miss Him. The more we read His word and get to know His character, the more we will realize He IS with us.

AMEN, Marty. After reading your comment, Romans 12:11, came to mind. All we do and all that we dwell on is all about what we choose. God never promised we wouldn’t struggle or experience suffering, but it’s how choose to go through those times. Thank you for sharing such simple wisdom with powerful impact.

Thank you for sharing Bekah! Thank you, as well, for showing that in the midst of hard times or illnesses, you can find laughter and joy, as you do every day on the Wally Show!

Bekah, The world is a much better place with sister’s like you. Thank you for everything you do faithfully for so many of us each day through the ministry of WAY-FM. God certainly knew what he was doing by brining you and your husband together. He knew you would be the strength your husband would need to depend on to trust Him alone for the temporary journey he has you both on. I’m certain your husband would agree, you are the embodiment of, Proverbs 31:10-31. I pray many special blessings over you and your husband.

Bekah’s video got me thinking, I have a few verses memorized, but I don’t think I believe them in my soul. Knowing something and actually believing it are two different things, I will try her strategy of repeating a verse (or verses) while going through a rough spot until I believe it in my soul.

Cody, I find the trip between what I know in my head and my heart to be a journey that takes time and practice. But isn’t this the definition of sanctification? We become convicted of sin, or wrong thinking, so we put off the old way and put on new right thinking or behaviors. And how awesome it is that as Bekah says- “he is on the plane with us”.

I talked to my husband by text last night. He has been really nasty and has not come home. He says he wants a divorce. I told him I am not giving up on our friendship, our relationship and our marriage. He said our problems are too big for God. I know God will never leave us or forsake us. HE is with my husband and working on his heart. HE is with me working on my heart. This struggle is real, but I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! I keep trusting in the Lord. I… Read more »

Megan, Please do not lose faith. Even in the darkest painful moments when it feels like your marriage cannot be healed there is God. He will not forsake you. My marriage was in trouble at one time and I thought there was no hope, we were separated for almost 5 years. I prayed everyday for God to heal us and get our hearts and minds where they should be. Miraculously, God did exactly that. He renewed our hearts and our spirits and we were able to forgive each other and reaffirm our marriage and our relationship with God. Just remember… Read more »

Megan, This is hard stuff, and as you and Bekah both have said- I know God will never leave us or forsake us. “He is on the plane with us” We are praying for you and your husband. Change is slow and hard, but it is possible because of Jesus!

Bekah, thanks for those incredible words. You are right, the more I recite those words-God will NEVER leave me-the more I begin to believe them. I still have some fear, but it’s not as bad as its been. My panic attacks have gotten less frequent and when fear starts to creep in, I start thanking God for all He has done. I tried doing things just yesterday that I’ve never tried before and they didn’t work. I found myself thanking God for it not working. I called to apologize and strangely they broke down and apologized for doing the exact… Read more »

Toya, That is awesome. It is so neat to see God at work in your life. He is faithful and “He is on the plane with us” 🙂

Thank you for this. My go to verse is Proverbs3:5. It helps me get through so much.

I lost one of my children, my just turned 18-year-old daughter, as a passenger in someone else’s car crash in 2015. Her favorite Bible passage was Psalm 23. My 3 boys are still devastated in many ways; the 2 youngest, now 22 and 18, left the state for now. My oldest, now 30, is established locally and trying to pull up roots. Their father went West to work in the oilfield 24/7. I want to run as well. I came back to God but don’t feel Him or hear Him as clearly. I pray my boys and their dad will… Read more »

RPM, thank you for your honest words. So much of life is about our perspective. I love word pictures. There are two views we have when we look out at the horizon. We can see everything right in front of us, or we can look up just a bit, and see the glorious sunrise. Our circumstances are what sits right before us and easily bogs us down, but if you just look up to the Lord and trust in how he sees the situation and is caring for you, you enjoy the beautiful sunrise. The view of the sunrise hasn’t… Read more »

Thank you, Bekah, for your message and insights. My fear is not that God will ever leave me; He’s the only constant in my life. But my fear is to actually be physically alone. I am losing my husband after more than 40 years of marriage. My son and his family do not live close. I am so frightened of being alone and starting over again at age 68.

WAY-FM

Pat, that is definitely hard. Starting over no matter how old we are is hard. But, God is faithful, and you can bloom where God has you now. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. I am praying that the Lord opens new doors and and new beginnings that fill your heart with joy. He still has plans for you. Watch and see what the Lord does 🙂

Thank you Bekah for sharing this. As much as I’ve learned (and I’ve walked with the Lord longer than you at this point), I really needed this reminder today. I’ve had less time with the Lord recently and my stress and terrible anxiety and triggering of past traumas have mushroomed. Iron sharpens iron. Thank you for sharing part of your story of marriage and illness, fear.

I can so totally relate @Julie. The fear can be almost crippling when past trauma’s are triggered. Thank you for taking the courage to reach out and single that I’m not alone!

WAY-FM

Julie, it is so fun to hear how the Lord is actively at work in all of your circumstances and even using Bekah and her testimony to remind you of his Goodness toward you.

I can’t explain how much God has spoke to me through the verse of the day and Bekah’s testimony!! Praise God that we can listen to his wonders via radio, i-phone & internet!!

Thanks! They sure do an awesome job.

My mom passed away May 3rd last year. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 23:1-6, she was hospitalized for several weeks before her passing and my dad would read this scripture to her everyday several times a day while she was in the hospital.

I grew up in the church and heard these verses many times. It wasn’t until I experienced a very scary and abusive situation did I really feel how true His words are. He will not leave us.

Indeed, sometimes we can not understand or feel God’s presence with us as strongly as when we need him. This can either strengthen our faith or weaken it. It seems to have strengthened yours, Trudi.

I have been walking a long journey of faith. At times I feel God is beside me. Then I remember Psalms 23: 4. God is there even when I don’t feel Him. I have survived cancer and dealt with divorce. God promised restoration. I am Walk that belief daily for my family. I am fighting depression and do have not at times. I believe God and His word

Bekah, thanks for sharing your story. Although I’ve heard this verse, I’ve never thought to apply it to my fears and anxiety. I lost my husband to brain cancer Sept 1, 2014 and started living my biggest fear that day. With 2 young daughters, (they were 6 and 2) I asked God to show me a purpose for this heartbreak. He brought me other widows. Mostly young moms like myself who needed guidance and reassurance that they weren’t alone. He gave me a peace about my husband’s death and, although I’d give anything to have him here again, I can… Read more »

Such a great reminder!! As odd as it sounds even though I get “amnesia” sometimes i feel God’s presence more when walking through difficulty or fearful times! He’s as close as our next breath! What a good good father we have!

Bekah thank you for that wonderful visual of God getting on the plane with you – for the good reminder that even though we are going through trials, HE IS WITH US. I have been dealing with a son’s addiction, homelessness, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, and feelings of hopelessness and being overwhelmed; I love my son dearly, so my heart hurts watching him go through this long and horrible season of his life. Through it all I remind myself that God is bigger, and that He IS with me. When the pain is great, my mantra is “Jesus I… Read more »
