When the bad news keeps coming and anxiety hits, in that exact moment, what do you do? What is your first reaction? Today’s video is going to explore a response to anxiety that might change your entire outlook on your situation.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Psalm 27:1-4

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
    so why should I tremble?
When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
    they will stumble and fall.
Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
    I will remain confident.

The one thing I ask of the Lord
    the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
    delighting in the Lord’s perfections
    and meditating in his Temple.

Go Deep

Country music legend, Jo Dee Messina, responded to a moment of anxiety and bad news in a profound and beautiful way. In today’s video, she gives us an update on her battle with cancer and how she’s finding joy in the midst of fear.

Watch Jo Dee perform the song inspired by this journey! She performed her brand new single, “Bigger Than This,” on Huckabee.

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

Fear is a dark shadow that envelops us and ultimately imprisons us within ourselves. Everyone has been a prisoner of fear at one time or another-fear of rejection, misunderstanding, uncertainty, sickness, or even death. But we can conquer fear by trusting in the Lord, who brings salvation. If we want to dispel the darkness of fear, let us remember with the psalm writer that “the Lord is my light and my salvation.”

Jo dee, I’ve missed you and your music, but I’m so glad to hear from you again. So blessed by your story. I am currently dealing with chronic illness that has stopped me in my tracks. I’ve been unable to work for 2 years and I completely understand the financial burdens. My work disability ends in July , and I pray against the fear of that every day. Giving that up to God fully and completely is so difficult, but what else can I do? What else would I really want to do? He is my Provider. Thank you for… Read more »

I, too, am fighting a chronic disease. Mine has taken me from one who ran circles around everyone-even with my short legs- and having too much nervous energy to a couch slug. I am just on the edge of the cliff of there’s-no-quick-fix and not dealing well. I have been through other hard times and I know when GOD says jump off the cliff and I jump, He will catch me at exactly the right time. Not a minute too soon, nor too late. He’s got you. We can jump together so He can catch us both!

This is a great testimony. I am also in a wilderness and looking to HEAVEN for the unspeakable joy. Cancer of the unrepentant heart of my daughter has troubled me for too many years and I am working on letting go. She is on a good path for her future career but chooses her SO without realizing GOD has better for her and she can wait for HIS best even if it takes a couple more years. I die inside every time she gives that particular guy, whichever one it is at the time, instead of giving GOD the glory… Read more »

Broken Parents, I’m sorry about the pain you’re experiencing. I’ve been in that lifestyle too. I started when I was in college. I’m struggling to pay rent and put food on the table. This is the first month that I haven’t and this month seems to be the hardest. The only reason I haven’t this month is because I don’t have any clients and I refuse to go to the previous ones. It’s all about survival. I’m sure she’s not doing this as a preferred lifestyle choice. It has more to do with her than you. I promise. Reach out… Read more »

Sometimes God leads us through the valleys and even though we don’t know where it leads, HE does. He will be glorified through us and we just need to lean into Him and trust Him and He will see us through. Have faith, have no fear for the Lord your God is with you.

Psalms 27 is my favorite scriptures. I have been walking through some stuff this week that has been hard. I try so hard to remember that God has great thing planned for us, and to not let your emotions take over. She is right i need to take a step back and lean on God when the stress and emotions get to much.

Wow! I’m still crying! You touched my soul with your story and song. I lost my son 3 years ago, my sister 21 years ago and my nephew 11years ago. Sometimes I feel like God forgets about me. But my God is bigger than this. Amen. Thanks so much Jo Dee. I hope you have this song on an album. I want to buy it to inspire my faith. God bless you.

I’m also right in the middle of my storm. After listening to you this morning I’ve decided to put the phone down too. I’ve gone on so many interviews. I’ve sent so many e-mails (some very desperate). I’ve made so many phone calls and still NOTHING. I keep trying because people keep telling me that I have to try and I have to try harder because God only helps those who help themselves. The Bible does say if a man doesn’t work he doesn’t eat. Maybe that’s why I’m not only having a hard time finding work, but finding food… Read more »

Toya, My prayer for you is that you would allow God to lead you to the church he is at waiting for you. I understand your apprehension due to the negative experiences you’ve had. Please understand that those churches may not been equipped to give you the help you truly need and deserve. I know you you’ve put the phone down, but I pray you will pick it up or better yet just go show up at the agency that I’m attaching a link to. I believe they will be able to assist you and your children with the support… Read more »

What a powerful song Jo Dee! My God is bigger than this! My God is bigger than my husband’s addiction! My God is bigger than the evil that is trying to take my husband away from God! My God is bigger than the evil trying to destroy our marriage, our friendship, our family! Romans 8:38-39. Nothing can separate us from the love of God!

I don’t want this series to end!!! It has been giving me such daily encouragement & strength. This new song is beautiful. You are a beautiful woman whom God has big plans for. Thank you for your transparency.

Jo Dee, Just when I think this WBSG can’t get any better, day 10 proves to be intentionally powerful. While listening to the joy pouring out from your heart I was hearing the sweet lyrics of an old time gospel song, ‘It’s amazing what praising can do…’ I was struck most by what you quoted from, Hosea, ‘Therefore I am now going to allure (her); I will lead (her) into the wilderness and speak tenderly to (her).’ It’s so easy not to fear and praise God when things are going good for us in our lives. This is when we… Read more »

Thank you for this. I too am in the thick of a situation where the outcome is unknown. But Gods peace is real and feeling his love and hand over everything is there. Even through the upsetting phone calls he is there. This was so needed today.

This is awesome!! Your story is so inspirational and I watched my mom go through cancer recently and watched how God took care of her. Now after all is said and done she is cancer free. Our God is Bigger than this. Will be praying for you and your family during this time that God gives you peace in knowing you can lean on him.

We found out a week ago that our child had been raped 12 years ago when he was a little boy. We are broken for him. He carried this far too long on his own. We knew something was off but thought it was mental issues. This has forever changed him and now us. He has rejected God, and walked a very hard road for a long time now, much of it due to this man that took his childhood from him. We need prayer for him and us.

Devastated, My heart is aching right now for your son as I personally understand his struggle. Im committed to praying with you for your son’s healing and to be able to experience the peace he so deserves. Trust me, God is faithful and wants nothing more than for him to achieve victory over that devastating experience. It will happen but it’s a long (and on going) road to recovery. My prayer for you is to be filled with compassionate patients and that God will send you the support you personally will need as you stand by your son and allow… Read more »

I was in tears listening to this. daily it is a question of if the last round of injections helped or not, weekly a question of “why” “when do I get my life back” “Do I need to find a new life” And with all the stress at work, I want/need this song on my play list to listen to at work to bring me back to the values, ethics I am trying to live by and remind me that God is in control, not me. I just need to be patient and allow Him to lead me and all… Read more »

I’ve going through health issues off and on the past couple months, and my doctors haven’t been able to diagnose my issues. God has been helping me deal with the pain, the worries, and the unanswered questions. I would have freaked out had it not been for God.

Also, asking for prayers that God helps my doctors figure out what is going on, and find the proper treatment, so I can hopefully get better.

Inspiring story, and an AWESOME song! I love how it starts out so quiet, describing the fears and doubts, and ends so strong praising God’s attributes and glory. I love the verse, “I’m strongest when I let go.”

Awesome, testimony and awesome, awesome song! Just wanted to share what God did for me a few years ago. I was diagnosed with a congenital aortic valve defect and told I needed open heart surgery. A few days after being told of the need for surgery, I had a dream in which my car was on a freeway, and it came to a bend in the road and flew off the freeway over the ocean. In my dream, I called out, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,” but nothing happened. I was still plummeting to the ocean. Then I said to God, “I… Read more »

I’m not a follower of country music, but I really enjoyed your new sing God’s Bigger Than This and will be looking for more of your music. You have a powerful testimony and voice. You’ve reminded me that there is power in praise.
I pray that God completely heals you and restores you to much more than you’ve ever had.

Beautiful testimony. God is Bigger than Cancer. You story is and will always be an inspiration to other moms, single parents and cancer survivors. 2013 was when I was told I had stage 3C ovarian and might not survivor and ever see my 50th birthday. I turned 51 in January. But sadly Satan tried to steal my Joy, because in June 2017 I was told the ovarian came back in 3 locations in my body. Ovarian is the silent killer for woman.
